This year, we are so excited to bring you two of our absolute favourite teachers* from far ends of the globe!

Anée – Germany

Anée hails from Heidelberg, Germany and is one of Europe’s most prominent proselytisers of blues dance as a teacher, social dancer, DJ and organiser. Her love of teaching and dancing are infectious and if you’ve travelled to Europe for blues, you probably already knew that. Anée is excited to be in Australia for the very first time and she is looking forward to helping you bring out your inner awesome!

As a DJ, Anée likes her blues to cut straight to the bone with rhythms so compelling that you can’t help but dance! She has spun for countless blues events – including Europe’s biggest BBE and BBB – and is excited to see the dancers at Cider House rush to the dance floor and work it! You’ll recognize her at the DJ stand; she’s the one who can’t help but dance in her seat while queuing the next song. Visit her website for more info- and check her out her moves below (Andrew’s in there too!):

Andrew – USA

Though his first venture into social dancing was to impress a girl as an eighth grader, Andrew now sees dance as a medium for artistic expression and community enrichment. He is an international dance instructor with ten years experience dancing and teaching. In classes around the world, he draws upon social, vernacular, and classical dances to inspire and challenge his students. He brings a balanced focus to technique, body mechanics, spirit, and creativity. Andrew strives to create a positive learning environment and to communicate and decompose dance concepts with clarity and precision. Andrew studies many dance forms, but Blues is foremost among them.

He loves the rich heritage of Blues and has traveled to Africa to explore its roots in Congolese and Malian dances. Always passionate about improving his own dance, Andrew continues to compete in and win competitions around the country, including Enter The Blues, Rose City Blues, and Portland Blues Experience. In his spare time, Andrew is a software engineer and holds a Master’s degree in Sustainable Design and Construction from Stanford University. He enjoys hugs, yoga, and dark chocolate.

Andrew enjoys DJing a wide variety of musical genres, but favors those with strong ties to the rich culture and history of the blues. He delights in creating moments for dancers to respond viscerally to blues music, allowing themselves to be transported to another era by a song. Andrew has DJed at events around the world, including Portland Blues Experience, Emerald City Blues Festival, and European Blues Invasion, and has won several DJ contests and nominations.

*Seriously. We sat down and asked ourselves, “Who would we get if we could get ANYONE?” And it was these guys. And they said yes!!!
